Initial Oral Examination
Your initial oral examination may possibly be the most thorough evaluation of your teeth that you have ever experienced. Dr. Eckerman’s staff will start by taking an oral CT Scan (the latest in dental radiography) as well as check up x-rays. After reviewing your health history and previous dental history Dr. Eckerman will begin with an oral cancer exam looking for any abnormal bumps or discolorations in your mouth. She will then evaluate your TMJs and muscles surrounding your head and neck, checking for any tension or tenderness that may be associated with bite problems. Dr. Eckerman will then closely examine your teeth, charting all of your previous treatment as well as any problems she may note. This will be followed by periodontal probing to determine any signs of gum disease. Once Dr. Eckerman has gathered this information she will then be properly prepared to diagnose and provide any treatment recommendations.
Dental Implants
Once requiring drilling of adjacent teeth, today the standard-of-care for a single missing tooth is a dental implant. Dental implants can also be utilized to replace multiple teeth or to secure a loose denture. Implants provide patients with the opportunity to resume smiling and eating normally and restore confidence. Together, Dr. Eckerman and Dr. Schopf have invested many hours of continuing education in order to provide complete implant services in her office eliminating the need to refer to a surgical specialist.
Porcelain Veneers
The perfect Hollywood smiles that are seen on many celebrities are often times created with porcelain veneers. A porcelain veneer is a thin porcelain facing that is bonded onto the surface of a front tooth after minor tooth reduction. Veneers make way for the correction of crowding, discolored, chipped and worn teeth. Temporaries are placed on the teeth for a few weeks while the skilled dental ceramist is fabricating your veneers at the laboratory. Veneers are considered a permanent restoration and will last many, many years without chipping or discoloring.
Crowns
The materials used for crowns have evolved dramatically in recent years. Although gold is still used for some crowns, all porcelain crowns are now done routinely. These strong and natural appearing materials eliminate the unsightly dark gum line that is commonly seen on older crowns and give the appearance of a healthy tooth.
Cosmetic Fillings
Fillings are bonded to your teeth, are more conservative to tooth structure than silver fillings and look nearly as natural as your original tooth.
Tooth Whitening
Our in-office whitening system, Zoom!® will make your teeth whiter in about 2 hours. Another option is our home bleaching system, Day White. This system you dispense yourself twice a day for results in about 2 weeks. You can also consider a combination program of both systems for optimal results. As with any whitening system the longevity of dental whitening depends on dietary habits, however any whitening results can be touched up over time.
Periodontal Treatment
Preventative dentistry is critical to prevent the loss of teeth due to gum disease. The term periodontal disease includes the reversible disease of gingivitis and extends to more advanced stages of periodontitis. Dr. Eckerman has superbly trained, knowledgeable and experienced dental hygienists. They will perform your routine cleaning, periodontal maintenance or if necessary root planing procedures. Should you require 2nd stage periodontal treatment Dr. Eckerman or Dr. Schopf will either perform these procedures or refer to a gum specialist, a periodontist.
Root Canals
Dr. Eckerman performs most root canals in office eliminating the need for a referral, except in very complicated cases.
Dentures and Partial Dentures
If you are a patient that is missing multiple teeth or unfortunately have lost or must lose all of your teeth Dr. Eckerman can make dentures or partials. In some of these situations it may be possible to place dental implants to help support your new teeth.
